Round Rock wants to be Google test market for super high speed service
Monday, March 08, 2010 - 01:20 PM

Round Rock could be the first to test a new Google Inc. broadband communications network.

The California-based Internet search engine is developing super high-speed fiber network that could result in Internet service 100 times as fast as traditional consumer service, the company said.

Google picked the North Austin city as the first possible testing site, among other locations, and is surveying residents about their communications needs through March 26. The survey is available here. It asks whether the respondent supports testing the network, what kind of Internet they currently use and from what companies, if they buy bundled service and some demographic information that would affect Internet usage.

Google will announce test sites for the new high-speed service and broadband infrastructure later this year.
