First LEED Certified Manufacturing Facility in Central Texas Opens Doors
Thursday, April 29, 2010 - 04:00 PM Employing superior green building practices and paving the way for future manufacturing facilities throughout the region is AirBorn, Inc., a global supplier of electronic components. This month they will be moving into their new LEED certified complex in Georgetown, which is the only one of its kind in Central Texas. With a construction budget of $6.3 million for the approximately 58,000 square-foot structure, collaborative partners include Raymond Construction, Hendrix Consulting Engineers, Boyer and Associates and FHI Engineering. Moman Architects provided all architectural, planning and interior design services for the flagship project. The modern, energy-efficient building, situated on a sustainable site, incorporates several environmentally friendly components such as high-efficiency lighting, urinals, and mechanical equipment, as well as motion sensors, timers and low-static duct work. The exterior and grounds feature 100% reflective roofing, water reduction, bike racks, and parking for hybrid cars. By seeking a LEED certification, the manufacturer will garner significant savings in number of areas including electricity, water, and HVAC systems.
